We measure your well's yield before sizing the pump. We test your water before installation. We do not replace a pump with the same pump that failed — we find out why it failed and fix the root cause. Maryland Licensed Master Plumber Terry Foster (#98433). 24/7 emergency response.
Most well pump failures are not random. They have a root cause. If that root cause is not addressed, the new pump will fail for the same reason. Here are the most common causes of premature pump failure in Southern Maryland:
A failed pressure tank bladder causes the pump to short-cycle hundreds of times per day. Each start puts enormous stress on the motor windings. We always test the pressure tank before and after pump replacement.
A well that produces less than 1 GPM cannot sustain a standard submersible pump. The pump runs dry, overheats, and burns out. We measure well yield before sizing the replacement pump.
Iron-rich water fouls pump screens and motor windings over time. Without treatment, the new pump will fail for the same reason. We test iron levels and recommend treatment to protect the investment.
A pump that is too small for household demand runs constantly and overheats. A pump that is too large for the well's yield runs dry. Correct sizing is critical — we calculate it based on your well's yield and household demand.
Voltage fluctuations, undersized wiring, and failed capacitors stress pump motors. We inspect the electrical system as part of every pump replacement.
A submersible pump that has run for 15+ years in iron-rich water has done its job. We replace it with a properly sized, properly installed pump backed by our 18-month labor warranty.
Before pulling the pump, we check the electrical system, pressure switch, and pressure tank. Many "pump failures" are actually electrical issues or waterlogged tanks that can be resolved without pulling the pump.
We measure the well's actual yield in gallons per minute. This determines the correct pump size. A low-yield well requires a Cycle Stop Valve or storage tank system — not just a standard pump replacement.
We test iron, pH, and hardness. High iron content fouls pump motors. We recommend treatment to protect the new pump before installation.
We size the pump based on your well's yield, the depth of the well, and your household's demand. Correct sizing is the single most important factor in pump longevity.
We pull the old pump, inspect the drop pipe and wiring, and install the new pump with new safety rope, new wiring if needed, and a new pitless adapter if required.
We test the full system — pressure, flow rate, and water quality — before leaving. We provide written documentation of the installation for your records.

"Absolutely blown away by the service from Deep Dive Plumbing Maryland! We had ongoing issues with our well water for years — bad smell, staining, and constant problems with pressure — and nobody ever took the time to truly figure out the root cause. Terry and the team came out, performed a full water analysis, explained everything in detail, and designed a system specifically for our home instead of just trying to sell us random equipment. You can really tell they care about doing things the right way. The install was extremely clean and professional, they walked us through how everything works, and our water has never looked or tasted better. The difference is unbelievable."

"I've worked with Deep Dive Plumbing Maryland several times and always come away amazed at how thorough they are. I would definitely recommend them."
We give you an honest recommendation — not the most expensive one. Here's how we think about repair vs. replacement:
After years of well pump work throughout Calvert County, Anne Arundel County, and Charles County, we know what causes pumps to fail early in this region — and how to prevent it from happening again.
Pump sizing for Southern Maryland wells
Most residential wells in Calvert County are 100–250 feet deep and produce 2–8 GPM. A standard 1/2 HP or 3/4 HP submersible pump is appropriate for most of these wells. However, we see many homes with oversized pumps (1 HP or larger) that were installed without measuring well yield — these pumps draw the well down faster than it can recover, causing the pump to run dry and burn out. We always measure yield before sizing.
Iron protection is non-negotiable
Calvert County well water commonly has 3–15 ppm iron. At these levels, iron will foul pump screens and motor windings within 5–8 years without treatment. We install iron filters before or alongside pump replacements when iron levels are elevated. The cost of an iron filter is a fraction of the cost of a second pump replacement.
Pressure tank replacement at the same time
If the pressure tank is more than 8–10 years old, we recommend replacing it at the same time as the pump. A waterlogged pressure tank will cause the new pump to short-cycle and fail early — the same way the old pump failed. Replacing both at once is significantly more cost-effective than two separate service calls.
Goulds pumps — our standard
We install Goulds submersible pumps as our standard — the industry benchmark for residential well pumps. Goulds pumps are available in a wide range of sizes, have excellent parts availability, and carry a manufacturer warranty. We size the pump correctly for your well's yield and your household's demand.
Every job we complete — including well pump replacement — is backed by our 18-month parts and labor warranty. If something we installed or repaired fails within 18 months, we come back and make it right. No arguments, no service call fees.
Well systems, water treatment, and major plumbing repairs can be significant investments. We offer financing options to help spread the cost over time — so you can get the work done right without waiting.
